How Is The Distributed Database Different From Federated Database?

I mean what is the difference between the Distributed Databases and Federated Databases?

    Distributive database is under the control of a central database management system. Not all the storage devices are attached to a common CPU. It is usually stores in multile computers which are located in the same physical location or over a network if interconnected computers. On the other hand a Federated Database System is a kind of meta database management system. It integrates multiple autonomous database systems into a single federated head. The databases are interconnected to the computer network. It is usually geographically decentralized.
