    On this day in 1979, the Nuclear plant at Three Mile Island, suffered a radioactive steam leak.  The accident was due to human error but radiation levels in the people who lived around the area, were not significantly different from the average.

    On this day in 1965, thousands of people joined Dr Martin Luther King on a march through Montgomery, Alabama.

    On this day in 1991, the friends and family of victims of the Hillsborough Stadium disaster wept and shouted in court as accidental death was announced as the final result of ninety day inquest, (the longest inquest in British history).

    On this day in 1941, author Virginia Wolff committed suicide by drowning.

    On this day in 1930, the ancient city of Constantinople changed its name to Istanbul.
