The adventures of Tom Sawyer were written by mark twain. It is a popular novel that was published in 1876 about a young boy growing up in St. Petersburg in the south of the antebellum South on the Mississippi river.

The character of tom sawyer was that of a mischievous one. He was a redheaded orphan taken in by his Aunt Polly who goes through a sequence of adventures involving Joe Harper and Huckleberry Finn. Tom's life shuffles between trying to get his sweet heart, Berry Thatcher or he is trying to go on an adventure, or he is getting into some kind of mischief. With the help of this book Mark Twain is trying to describe the "joys of boyhood". The book's selling hadn't been that great initially but by the time Mark twain dies it became an American bestseller. He died of angina pectoris in 1910.
