Ridge Vent Installed Properly?

I had a new roof installed with a new ridge vent. The new ridge vent does not completely cover the old cut out in the ridge, and so the roofer covered these areas over with roofing underlayment and shingles. Is this standard practice? The ridge in these areas is not solid and gives when pressed on. I am afraid this will soften and sag over time. How should this have been done?

The roofer should have re-cut the venting. It would have been more time consuming and expensive. The weather stripping and shingle should hold. I have seen other roofers do the same thing and it turned out ok
