    Lausanne is a city in Switzerland, the capital of the Vaud canton, situated on the Lake of Geneva. It is situated in the French speaking division of Switzerland; hence the principal language spoken here is French.

    Lausanne is a vital railway station as well as a lake port. It is a commercially important region, the trading hub situated in an area which is agriculturally successful. The creation of the Simplon Tunnel in the year 1906 greatly increased the commercial importance of Lausanne, situating it on the route between Paris and Milan.

    It undertakes the production of food products as well as tobacco. It also produces precision instruments, garments, metal and leather goods.  Lausanne is the location for the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee. It is also a thriving wine growing locality.
