How Can Abortion Be Morally Justified?

There are clear-cut cases where the imposition upon the mother of having a baby might be considered unreasonable. Even in most countries where abortion is generally outlawed, there are usually exceptions. These include cases of incest, rape, and where the mother's own life is in great danger.

Many people also support abortion without moral qualms when the foetus shows gross physical defects, such as having no brain or any condition which is incompatible with life outside the womb (such as no lungs).

The argument can also be made that to bring a badly unwanted child into the world is in itself, a moral sin. Giving up a child at birth is a terribly hard thing for a woman to do (every hormone in her body screams not to). Statistically, such unwanted children are quite likely to have a very poor quality of life, although the mother cannot envision that when heavily pregnant or having just given birth. Is it right to create a child who will have a miserable life?
