My Boss Ask Me To Compare Myself With Someone, What Should I Say?

Answer Question

3 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Your boss, I am sure, must have a specific reason in mind when he tells you to compare yourself to someone. Is it someone specific or someone in general? If it is someone specific, you can take this as a learning experience, and find out what qualities the other person has that are great, and that you can emulate. Impressing your boss will then be a mere piece of cake.

On the other hand, if there is no one specific that your boss wants you to compare yourself with, then you get an option to choose someone who you admire greatly, and who you feel can possibly act as a role model.
However, I know how it feels to have your boss ask you to compare yourself with someone, instead of appreciating you for what you are. Do not worry, all this will change with time, when you are able to prove your worth to your boss, and to your colleagues, at which time you can become their role model!

The answer is to try to work out what your boss is trying to do.  Why would they want you to compare yourself with someone.  Do they mean one of your colleagues or someone famous?
Choose someone who makes you look good.  Choose someone  you admire and whenever you talk about yourself, use only positives, if you must must use negatives, talk about how you are planning on taking the steps to resolve any issues.  Whoever you choose make sure it's not your mother or someone that your boss doesn't know!

Ensure that you do not spend ANY time bitching at all, not for a single second, not for half a single second.  It's really important that you try to work off your boss, ask some further questions, ask why, why not? You're surely entitled to find out what your boss is driving at.  It's reasonable to ask further questions of them.

Compare yourself with other employees. Tell your boss, how you will be like them(if there good employees) or how you can be better than them. Always think and speak positive with yourself, try to impress your boss ^^
