How Do You Read Hieroglyphics?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Egyptians writings were generally known as hieroglyphics. The name hieroglyphics comes from hieros meaning holy and glyphe meaning writing. So in other words it literally means holy writing.  These writings are generally represented by pictures of people, animals, etc. In order to read this you will need to look at it very carefully. You have to see which direction the picture is facing and read it in that particular direction. You generally like others read it from top to bottom.

They generally write it on papyrus reed; they also wrote things on walls of the tombs and or even painted it out on the stones.
