How Can Barbie Games Be Educational?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Barbie games can be educational because of their content. They can teach the usual simple mathematical sums and basic English skills using Barbie as the backdrop. The benefit of this is that they are attractive to children and therefore opens up a different avenue in which the same academic requirements can be taught. This is particularly useful for reluctant readers or children that are struggling; there is less pressure and more interest and so may encourage the child to learn.

Another way that the games can be educational is through their completion. For instance, online games can show cause and effect, and help to improve fine motor skills through mouse manipulation. This in turns assists hand eye coordination. These can be good for children with special educational needs also. Others come in the form of computer games and computerised books. Here the emphasis is again on hand eye coordination and fine motor skills, but also on following instructions. Interactive books can promote enjoyment of reading.

All games can assist with general social skills such as turn taking and decision making. Although the colours and presentation may seem too gaudy, the content can actually be stimulating. It is another medium to communicate and build vital information and skills.
