Your cat could have conjunctivitis (a superficial infection of the eye) leading to discharge that is affecting the skin around the eye.  There are also several skin parasites that can affect cats-especially kittens because their immune system is not fully developed.  Ringworm, mites, and fleas can cause irritation and skin changes.
Trauma leading to bruising can cause skin pigmentation and change in texture.  Insect bites can cause irritation, redness, changes to the skin, and even skin death.
Since this lesion has been present a week and getting larger I do not think there is much you can do at home.  This lesion needs to be identified and treated appropriately.  Have this examined by a veterinarian so it can be treated.
Do not use medications topically near the eye.  The eye is very sensitive and if you get any medications in the eye or the kitten rubs medication it the eye it could cause a lot of harm.

Use a warm wet paper towel and let it soak the eye for a minute or so, and then wipe the eye with a fresh area of the paper towel as this will get the stuff off of the cats eyes. Do this a couple times a day for a few days, and see if this helps. If it doesn't clear up, then you should take the kitty to the vet. Hope this helps.
