Which Temple Is Famous For Its Musical Pillars?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Shivastalam temple (which is in fact two temples, worshipped as Nellaippar and Kantimati) in the Tirunelveli district of India, is famous for having 'musical pillars'.
There are two giant pillars, each of which has 48 smaller pillars.  When struck these produce a musical note.  The temple is renowned not just for the 'musical pillars' but also as a place of great religious significance and spirituality, as well as architectural interest.
The temple is dedicated to Shiva and is part of the Hindu faith.  Hindus believe in the cosmic spirit of Brahman, which takes three major forms, Vishnu, Shiva and Shakti.  Shiva is known as the 'good one' or the 'auspicious' one, but also as the destroyer (although Shiva may destroy evil).
The Hindu faith is very important within Indian culture.  It is one of the most dominant belief systems/faiths within India.  In addition, it is actually the third largest faith within the world and is the oldest religion known to mankind.
