Philadelphia gets its name from two Greek words meaning "city of brotherly love." It is also known as "Philly' which is nothing but a shortened version of its original name. It is the most populous city in Pennsylvania. It had a population of 1,517,550 inhabitants as per the 2000 census. It is the second largest city in the East coast of US.

    It is a flourishing and significant commercial, educational and cultural centre in the United States. It is also one of the oldest and major cities in US during the 18th century this place held a lot of prominence as it was the second largest English speaking city in the world standing next only to London. It also had a lot of social and political significance and even eclipsed cities like Boston and New York. The famous scientist Benjamin Franklin played a major role in the rise of this city.
