Is Enterococcus Contagious?

Enterococcus is a usually nonpathogenic streptococcus bacteria that inhabits in the intestine of humans and many animals causing no harm in specific condition. These are Gram-positive cocci normally found in the feces.  If these feces are the source to contaminate any source of drinking water or food then there contigous pathogencity is stongly evidnet.  Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium are the types which are lethal causing serous human diseases.

The most common pathogenicities are urinary tract infections, some other infections including those of the blood stream i.e. bacteraemia, and wound infections, endocarditis and meningitis.  Enterococci also colonize in open wounds and skin ulcers where these are an open source for continuousness.  It is clear that these bacteria are contingents in nature.

The most dangerous form of contagiousness is Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE).  If  VRE in your body it means that you may develop infection later, rather at the time you may be having no sign of illness.  So, your are a host and most likely you can transmit the germ to other people.  Special precautions are used to apply on the host so, that transmission may be eradicated.  The most important precaution is good hand washing to prevent the spread of germs before eating and after using bathroom.  The serious contagious ability of these can be viewed by the example that Enterococci have been estimated to account for 110,000 urinary tract infections annually in the United States.
