Keeping your pets especially your dogs off your precious furniture is quite a challenge. Remember that most dogs get on to the sofas and armchairs for the same reason we humans do - to relax in comfort. So if you are determined to keep your pets off your furniture be compassionate and ensure that your pet has a comfy blanket or rug to sleep and relax in.
You will have to train your dog during puppy hood itself that sleeping on the furniture is just not permissible. This will mean that the dog must not be allowed on the furniture at all times and for this you may have to enlist the cooperation of all your family members in enforcing this rule. Once your dog develops a habit of sitting on the furniture it's almost impossible to get it to change.
Once the dog has gotten used to climbing and chilling on the furniture you can try - keeping them in rooms that do not have furniture, or simply keeping them away from all rooms that have furniture. You can also try using a scat mat which can be bought online or at a pet store.
Lastly you can compromise and simply cover your furniture with an old bed sheet or a cover and allow your dog to relax on your couch.
