How Popular Is Cinderella?

Researchers have traced over 700 versions of the Cinderella story from around the world both written and told in many different languages. This supports the idea that certain key stories have near universal appeal because they point to important human characteristics or meet deep seated human needs. The notions that good will triumph over evil, that beauty wins out over ugliness and the all important happy ending offered by Cinderella are certainly themes repeated many times in popular film and literature. First recorded in China in the ninth century the Cinderella story is first recorded in written form in Europe in 1634. In 1697 the story now familiar across Europe and America was written by a man named Perrault . His "Cinderella, or The Tale of the Little Glass Slipper" contained in his Histories or Tales of Past Times forms the template for one of the most popular stories ever told. Its success as a Disney animation and a ballet adds to the idea that there are few more universally popular tales.

Cinderella is an extremely popular story,  this is because it is based on a popular theme the girl is poor and ill treated but is beautiful, she has a wicked stepmother who ill treats her. A Prince falls in love with her and she becomes the most sought after girl at the Ball and eventually marries the Prince.  Everyone loves stories like these.  Children love stories with happy endings, stories with a Prince, fairies, animals helping out.  Therefore, it is very very popular.  

There are Cinderella videos, ballets.  Also, a lot of merchandise is sold like dresses, golden cinderella slippers, the works.

There are several versions of Cinderella in all languages in Europe, Japan, China, India in fact, all over the world.
