What Is VOIP?

Answer Question

Voice Over Internet Protocol is a relatively new technology which allows users to talk to one another over an internet connection without the use of a telephone. Often the conversation can take place through the PC Microphone or a Headset - the data is sent over the connection using digital packets of information. A great advantage to VOIP is that it does not command any extra charges other than those already taken out for the internet access and phone line usage.

Protocol, a category of hardware and software that enables people to use the Internet as the transmission medium for telephone calls by sending voice data in packets using IP rather than by traditional circuit transmissions of the PSTN. One advantage of VoIP is that the telephone calls over the Internet do not incur a surcharge beyond what the user is paying for Internet access, much in the same way that the user doesn't pay for sending individual e-mails over the Internet.
There are many Internet telephony applications available. Some, like CoolTalk and NetMeeting, come bundled with popular Web browsers. Others are stand-alone products. VoIP also is referred to as Internet telephony, IP telephony, or Voice over the Internet (VOI)

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), is a technology that allows you to make voice calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line. Some VoIP services may only allow you to call other people using the same service, but others may allow you to call anyone who has a telephone number - including local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers. Also, while some VoIP services only work over your computer or a special VoIP phone, other services allow you to use a traditional phone connected to a VoIP adapter.

VoIP or voice over Internet Protocol
is the transmission of voice traffic over IP based networks. The VoIP
broadband has become popular because of the cost advantages. Broadband
VoIP can be connected in three ways, like; using a VoIP telephone,
using a normal telephone with a VoIP adapter, using computer with
          speakers and microphone.

Voice over IP (VoIP) defines a technology that is used to deliver standard telephone services over IP-based data networks such as the corporate intranet thus consolidating voice and data onto one single network. This realizes significant savings in communications costs and provides users with a flexible, highly-efficient communication system. Users are now enabled to communicate using either a standard PC, equipped with a sound card, or a special IP-based telephone. Since VoIP technology has not yet been implemented in all corners of the globe, a powerful tool is needed to bridge a VoIP network into Telco-owned voice networks – The Diva Server Voice solutions provides this tool with the Diva Server VoIP Gateway
