I am having to define IT terms for a college project and am not sure how to word this.

A Needs Assessment is defined as a systematic exploration of the way things are and the way they should be. These "things" are associated with organizational or individual performance. The first step is to check the actual performance of the system against existing standards, or to set new standards. Then you identify the priorities and in the end you look for possible opportunities and growth potential in the IT infrastructure.
