      The easiest way to remember mean is "don't be mean share them all out equally"
      e.g.
      Say you have 7 boxes of drawing pins each containing different amounts
      and it asks you to calculate the mean number of drawing pins per box

      number     number
      of pins      of boxes
      24             2
      26             1
      30             1
      28             2
      34             1

      you would do the following
      2x24=48
      1x26=26
      1x30=30
      2x28=56
      1x34=34

      then do 48+26+30+56+34=194
      then do 194 divided by 7 = 27.71

      answer = 27.71

        You add the first total to the total next to it in the grid then do the same for the rest of the questions after this you find out how many numbers you have, add them all together then divide it by how many numbers you had.

        For example.

        18 teachers travel by car. Some of these teachers travel together.

        Number of teachers in one car                                               number of cars

        1                                                                                            4

        2                                                                                            4

        3                                                                                            2

        what is the mean number of teachers in each car?

        1 x 4 = 4
        2 x 4 = 8
        3 x 2 = 6

        4 + 8 + 6 = 18

          It is the average of the numbers, you add them all up and then divide by the amount of numbers you have

          For example you have 7+1+1+1+1+1=12 divided by 6 which the answer is 2 hope that helps.
