Answer Question

I found a site that specializes in discontinued Wedgewood china that provides an interesting comprehensive overview of Josiah Wedgewood - they say he experimented with a wide range of ceramic bodies and glazes.  He is also accredited with discovering black Basalt and Jasperware as china wares.  Hope this helps you find the information you are looking for!

Wedgewood was a very famous potter and the most respectable members of the nobility got their pottery made by him. He stared the jasperware in which he used jasper for making his china. Jasper was made of opaque quartz which came in red, brown or yellow color. He made this material by mixing translucent clay with basalt.

The pieces made by him were very sought after even by the Queen and nobility because of their beauty and detail.
