    The word ballot has been derived from the French word ballot which mean a small ball. during the ancient  green small balls were used by the judges to give decisions

    This was given to the same question months ago by myself. Perhaps the answer for this user to to search the site perhaps?

    They used to vote by dropping little balls into a box, or coloured balls into a box, hence ballot box
