Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Kronstadt rebellion was a failed uprising attempt organized by Soviet sailors, the movement was led by Stepan Petrichenko. The movement was organized against the government of early Russian SFSR, thought it proved to be the final major rebellion against Bolshevik rule.

The rebellion was started in the first week of March, 1921 in Kronstadt, which was a marine stronghold on Kotlin Island in the Gulf of Finland. Customarily Kronstadt use to be the base of the Russian Baltic Fleet and also served as a guardpoast for the approaches up to Saint Petersburg, which is thirty five miles away. Saint Petersburg's name was changed to Petrograd from 1914 to 1924; it was later changed to Leningrad till 1991 when its initial name was reinstated.

The economic policy of Russia helped the Soviet government attain success in the Russian civil war, but its major after effect was that its economy suffered on a large scale.
