What Makes For A Good Description Meta Tag?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Each page description must be informative and relevant. Short, sharp, to the point, and containing appropriate keywords or phrases, all make for a good description meta tag.

Descriptions require some thought as they are the basis upon which a potential visitor will make their instant judgement on the page's relevancy to their search. Concise and clear should be the description meta tag writer's watch words. For in a list of search engine results, each page description will get little more than one second's consideration. A badly-written description simply won't encourage a click thru to your site.

Bear in mind that the vast majority of web users are goal-driven rather than casual surfers. Most users 'trawl' rather than surf. Being online has an end purpose in mind, so to distinguish itself a site must be crystal clear on what it is about - and say so in a plain non-jargon way.
