The purpose of keeping a fixed exchange rate is to maintain the currency value of a country within control so that it doesn’t vary too much. Fixed exchange rates provide more certainty for the importers and exporters. They also help in keeping the inflation low as there would be less fluctuation in the value of the currency. This ultimately helps in encouraging more trade and investments.
