I think no... But i think that if your in a family who don't wanna talk about it.. Then yes.. You have to know what situation you are in.. Like if most in the family got kick out from a job.. Then talking about it might be a taboo.. For they dont wanna talk about it.. Or its just keeping phase.. Like friends.. If they are so happy about their favorite team winning.. You wont just bump in talking about your work.. Be sensitive around you. You can't just talk to someone who's not interested... Talking has to be mutual.. One whose willing to talk and one whose willing to listen. Any subject is ok...

I don't know how socially unacceptable it is but I can tell you If your work is your only source of conversation at family gatherings friend you have worse issues to deal with than unacceptable conversation topics
