How One Can Be A Good Host?

The answer to this is either very complicated or very simple. If you try to consider the different traditions and rules of hospitality around the world, the question is endless. However, if you try to look behind all the varying (and often contrasting) traditions, they are all based on a few simple principles. No matter what your national or local customs are, to be a good host you need to:
§ show pleasure in your guest's arrival
§ try to make him or her feel at home
§ avoid giving the impression that the visit is causing you any inconvenience or tiredness (even if it is)
§ offer the best refreshments you can afford, and as much comfort as you are able to provide
§ think in terms of making your guests happy, rather than trying to impress them ~ in fact, if they are happy they are also much more likely to feel impressed.
