Is There A Cure For Insomnia?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Not exactly, but there are things that can reduce it, or make it more tolerable to live with.
Quite often there are specific things keeping someone awake at night.  Tackling problems (easier said than done!) can go a long way towards reducing anxiety that is keeping you awake.  It may help to make a list of things that need doing, or to make a plan of action to get a problem resolved.

Other times insomnia is increased, if not outright caused by caffeine or other stimulant intake.  Cutting out or at least down on caffeinated drinks and food is the solution.  Perversely, alcohol can also interfere with sleep for many people.

Sticking with a strict routine during the day has been shown to help some chronic insomniacs.  Others who can't put their sleeplessness down to habits or worries may need to learn to live with it.  Not worrying about it is important, maybe you need less sleep than they thought, or you can learn to juggle life a bit so that you can catch up when your body will let you nod off.  Sleeping pills may be an option, but they become less effective over time and in some cases are addictive.
