What Gives The Sun Energy?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The sun is powered by nuclear fusion- the same energy that is released with a hydrogen bomb, only many many times more powerful. The intense pressure of gravity pushes the ball of hydrogen together so tightly and creates so much heat and pressure at the center that the hydrogen fuses into deuterium, which then joins with another hydrogen to create a type of helium (helium 3). Helium 3s combine to produce ordinary helium and two hydrogens. Each of these combinations creates a lot of energy

Luckily there is so much hydrogen in the sun that this will continue for another 5 billion years.
