What Is A Target Market (commercial)?

I love to watch the Super Bowl commercials. I am wanting to know the details that go into making a commercial from start to finish. After I watched a few I looked online to determine the target market for each ad, which got confusing, since I don't really understand what's behind the commercial. Sometimes I got lost in a good commercial and forgot who the sponsor was and what the product was that they were actually trying to solicit which isn't a good thing.

Whilst Aicha is correct, this is not always the case.  A product targeted at a specific customer base may, after it has been sold for a while and market research conducted, be found to appeal to a much wide customer base than anticipated.  In this case a commercial may be made to target and capture a much wider customer base than the product was originally designed for.  Also commercials may be made to expand a customer base so may be targeted at a larger audience than the product was originally targeted at.  In this instance you may very well get the problem you have found where the message/product or product provider get lost in the commercial.

Target market of a commercial is basically the  target market of the product. The commercial is based on the product features and is made keeping in mind the prospective customers. However, the ad makers often pass the line, intentionally or unintentionally due to a number of factors. They do it intentionally because they feel that would enable other sets of customers to get attracted to  the product and unintentionally because they are focusing more on showing the product as extraordinary in contrast to focusing on the features. The latter is a case similar to what you have mentioned above. The ad makers were too busy in the enhancing the beauty of the ad that they forgot what the ad was all about.
