I do believe that the battle of New Orleans was won by the Americans under Andrew Jackson.  I remember my High School History teacher made us memorize a song the started ....In 1814 we took a little trip, along with Col. Jackson down the mighty Mississip.  We took a little bacon and we took a little beans and we fought the bloody British in the town of New Orleans.  It goes on but like many things I learned in school......

The U.S. Forces were able to prevent the British forces from traveling up the Mississippi river.  Fighting was intense and the U.S. Shore batteries inflicted heavy damage.  After several days, the U. S. Won due to the fact that the British withdrew.  This marked the end of the war of 1812.  Great Britan had desired to reclaim her colonies in north America.  The British thought the U.S. Government was weak and that the U.S. Would crumble under a strain but found the task unpleasantly costly in terms of resources which were needed elsewhere.

Actually, it did not end the War of 1812. The War of 1812 was in fact already over by the time this battle was fought, but word of the end of the war had yet to reach the two sides. In any event, the battle was about the only battle that the US won and about the only thing that went right for the US in that war.
