    He doesn't have to but he should for all your sakes I don't think it law just yet but it will be

      As far as I know there is no state or municipality in the US where carbon monoxide detectors have to be provided by landlords.  If you are concerned about it perhaps you could check out the price, etc and decide if you want to buy it.  A family's health is priceless.

        It will never be law because it opens the landlord up for a lawsuit for installing a certain brand (should it fail or if the tenant is too stupid to replace the batteries). Smoke detectors however are usually required by town codes.
