My Golden Retriever Has Diarrhea. What Should I Do?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

In dogs that are otherwise bright and alert, and are not showing any other signs like vomiting, you can do some things at home.  Withhold food for 24 hours.  During this time allow water and lectade (or another oral rehydration solution).  After 24 hours introduce a bland meal of white meat like fish or chicken mixed with rice.  This is high in energy and easily digestible.  Feed this in frequent small amounts.  If all goes well you can wean your dog back onto their normal diet.

If the diarrhoea persists or his condition worsens you will have to seek veterinary assistance.
