The phrase military discipline, or discipline in the military, is defined as one of the main characteristics of a professional military. The military of every country is a strict and elaborate code of conduct which is rigid, but which every officer in the armed forces must follow.
When a person is enlisted in any of the three armed forces, namely the army, the navy or the air force, he or she is expected to follow the rules which are concerned with military courtesy. These rules are basically an extension as well as a formalisation of the courtesies (or manners) which people practice in their day-to-day life. This discipline is common to the cultures of every country in the world.
Every subordinate officer must respect his or her superior or commanding officer and must strictly follow every instruction which has been handed down by the officers at the top of the chain of command.

Military has a strict system of rules and regulations which is known as military discipline. It is one of the most defining features of the military force. It is actually a formal condition of order and compliance that exists in the military. It is followed to maintain the hierarchy and maintain good co-ordination in a command. These strict codes are followed even in the absence of the commander or the superior officer.
Discipline is instilled by cultivating their confidence and developing their level of responsibility. Appealing to their sense of reason is a method to inculcate discipline. The method of reward and punishment is also implemented depending on the situation and their performance. The main objective of military discipline is to guarantee successful joint activity. There are academies who train the young military personnel not only in warfare and arms but also in military discipline.
