Poseidon God of the sea and all waters(appears in the Roman mythology by the name Neptune), was one of the most powerful and worshiped gods.Brother of God Zeus, mostly lived in his kingdom deep in the sea.He was the protector of sailors and fishermen and carried a trident which was his symbol. He had the power to command waters and all creatures of the sea. When travellers respected and prayed to his name (sometimes even made sacrifices to his name)he would create a calm sea for a safe journey, even create new islands in the middle of the sea.But when angry, he would cause tempests and earthquakes so terrible that no ship could survive from.In Homer's Odyssey Poseidon gets furious with Odysseus and doesn't let him return home to Ithaca.

Poseidon is the god of sea and was said to have created horses out
of sea foam. He not only controls storms, but earthquakes also. So people called him storm bringer and earth shaker. His symbols are water, horses, foam and the trident, which is a three pronged fork that is very often depicted with, along with a long white beard.
