How Do You Replace Mobile Home Skirting?

Answer Question

I was looking for a inexpensive alternative to vinyl, brick, wood, etc. I read an article online about making quick, cheap, durable, water proof roofs for refugees by painting various ratios of latex paint, portland cement, and sand onto nylon window screen. I experimented with this process to make skirting on the front end of my double wide. I used pvc pipe for studs, cutting the notch at the top so they would fit under that little lip and drilling a hole so I could could attach them. I cut the pipe with a jig saw. It was quick and easy. The studs are buried 4 to 6 inches in the ground. Then I attached the nylon screen using little "self drilling" screws. I bought some mis-tinted exterior latex paint at Lowes fair $5 a gallon. I used the formulas that were presented in the article--first coat = 1 part latex paint, 1 part water, portland cement until a thin paste is formed. Paint it on and let it dry. You may have some misgivings at this point. 2nd coat = 1 part latex paint, 1 part water, then 3 parts sand to 1 part portland cement to form a much thicker paste. After this coat, you'll see how this might just work. See photos of my experiment at thespanishrose.blogspot.com and the finished project at thespanishrose.blogspot.com.
