From A Business Point Of View, Are There Drawbacks To Working From Home?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Until fairly recently working from home was perceived by some people as portraying an unprofessional image. Now, though with the increasing number of people working remotely there is much less of a negative interpretation put on being based from home.

But start the way you mean to continue by clearly setting out domestic and work boundaries. Set aside a spare room as a properly equipped office working space and don't use this space for other domestic purposes. If you can achieve this, you will be able to work much more productively and efficiently, and at the end of the day be able to close the door on your work life.

Don't cut corners, insist on delineating the two spheres of your life. Have a separate business phone line, for instance, and resist attempts by family members to share the space. What you are trying to create is a haven insulated from day to day domestic issues.

If you have to meet clients, try to go to them. You'll probably learn and earn more from doing that than meeting in a cramped home office.
