    Scooterpup

    Our 9 Years Old Black Lab Gets Very Itchy Every Fall. This Fall Is Worse. He Scratches And Chews On His Paws. His Head And Legs Seem To Have Like A Severe Dandruff Problem When Brushed, Lots Of White Flakes. Can You Help?

    We have lots of friends that their dogs are suffering from allergies. Our dog is worse in the fall. The vets' recommendation has been benedryl. It seems to help. One of our friend's dog vet said their Lab had Magne?? The symptoms are similar to allergies, but we aren't in the wild by coyotes. Our dog has been so miserable he chewed parts of his pads and wouldn't walk for a few days, It has never been so bad. We live in N.D., in a dev. That is rural. He runs in fields and ditches. Help

    He might need a vet check up just to rule out parasites and such. I would go pick up a bottle of distilled vinegar and give him vinegar water baths. It is cheap and you can find it at most grocery stores. It is very soothing to the skin and isn't harsh like soaps. He will smell like a salad until he dries and then he'll smell fresh and clean. It is what my mom bathes my dog in because he seems to be allergic to everything and he is a farm dog. Flies and stuff don't seem to like it and the dog actually enjoys being bathed in it.

    We will try the vinegar bath. The benadryl really helps, but we are tired of drugging Scooter. Thanks for the help.

      I think you need to take him to a different vet to be seen. There might be something else going on with him, it could be mange, and he doesn't have to necessarily catch it from other dogs. Hope this helps, good luck to you.
