    During the 1990s Permission magazine was one of the largest Gothic magazines. It began in the year 1992, in Chicago by Jason Elliot. The first issue of the magazine was newsprint 'Zine. This featured bands like Alien Sex Fiend and the Young Gods in the column next to amateurish poetry. It also produced disturbing comic strips such as Scott Warren's piece on the serial killer Ed Gein.

    The magazine also featured fiction from local musicians from the industry like Jim Marcus (Die Warzaw). Permission was published before the days of the Web; it was related to the publication of Industrial/Nation. The magazine was considered as one of the best source for the review of Goth music, it was also the considered as one the best magazines for the review of Industrial music.
