Can Humans Be Considered Carbon Reservoirs?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

From the total mass of elements which is 99% in the human body, carbon is the second most abundant after oxygen and is 18%. Carbon is an important element for different reactions to take place in the body and it is also a part of the DNA. The total amount of carbon that a human body contains is about sixteen kgs. This can be in different forms.

Humans cannot really be considered as carbon reservoirs because they don’t keep the carbon inside them all the time and are not entirely made up of carbon. The living organisms that can be called reservoirs of carbon are trees particularly those which are very old.
