British came in India with the purpose of trade. India was a country full of resources at that time and attracted many foreigners including Britishers. Britishers established "East India Company" to carry on their trade in India. It was during their trade that they examined the rulers of India were not good in administration and planned to take over India. They did so by, dividing the rulers of different states of India and making them against each other. This way they slowly and steadily took control over India. British rulers also had advantage of modern weapons compared to rulers of India.
