Is Buddhism Considered A Religion? And How Is The Easiest Way To Learn About Buddhism?

I say that Buddhism is a state of being, nature and goodwill - my friend says it's a religious cult....I'm wondering if there is such a thing as a manual "Buddhism for Dummies"? When I find an article about the subject I become very lost very quickly....

Buddhism is considered a religion, it has all aspects of a religion such as morality, rituals etc. You can learn more about buddhism from the book "buddhism: History and diversity of a great tradition" by Elizabeth Lyons and Heather Peters.
