The longest running series in the history of television is Meet the Press, an NBC news show that premiered in 1947 and has been running ever since, with over 2, 600 episodes. It was adapted from radio, and currently lasts 44 minutes without commercials. It is broadcast on Sunday mornings and focuses on interviewing political figures. The current host is Tim Russert.  Close behind is Guiding Light on CBS, from 1952. This is the world's longest running television soap, and despite being broadcast for a shorter period than Meet the Press, has amassed almost 15,000 episodes, making it the longest series in history in terms of episodes. The longest running children's show is Blue Peter on the BBC (1958-present) and the longest running serial drama is Coronation Street, which began in 1960 on ITV. Additionally, the longest running animation is The Simpsons (Fox), which has been in production since 1989.
