What Can You Tell Me About Orange County In Florida?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Covering an area of approximately 1,000 square miles in east central Florida, Orange County is set literally in the heart of Florida. Being midway between Jacksonville in the north and Miami in the south makes Orange County an ideal base for exploring Florida.

There are an abundance of attractions within easy reach, including Disney Word, SeaWorld Orlando and Universal Studios and much more. To ensure you get the maximum bang for your buck, visit the Official Visitor Center in Orlando and pick up discounted tickets for all the major attractions.

But the jewel in the crown of the Florida tourist industry had rather different beginnings. In what was a prescient example of corporate re-branding, the creation of the state of Florida in 1845 was the prompt for the county's political leaders to drop the name Mosquito County.

The original county name was acknowledgement of the territory's sub tropical climate. Orange County is merely 28 degrees north of the Equator; in the US, only the tip of Texas and Hawaii are further north. This may also explain why Orange County is the birthplace of air conditioning!
