Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Kalahari is the name of the second largest desert in the world. It is incidentally the second largest desert in Africa second only to the Sahara. It is a partly arid and partly semi arid area in the southern part of Africa. It stretches over a total area of 900,000 square km. It extends over the African countries of Botswana and some parts of Namibia and South Africa. Despite being a desert it has huge tracts for grazing after substantial rainfall.

The Kalahari basin is an area that extends further in to Namibia, Botswana and South Africa and even includes some parts of Zambia, Angola and Zimbabwe. The River Okavango is its only permanent river. It flows to a delta situated in the northwest and it and creates marches that are packed with many kinds of wildlife. Omuramba or the ancient dry riverbeds are found in some parts of the Kalahari Desert and form pools of water in the monsoon season.
