How Do I Fix Garbage Disposal?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Fixing the garbage disposal would depend on the particular problem you are facing. The most common issue would be a jammed garbage disposal. You can first quickly turn the same on and off to see if the disposal has power. If your disposal hums, you know that the power is on and the impeller must be jammed. In this case you need to clean out the jam from underneath.

If it doesn't hum, then it's possible that the garbage disposal could have overheated and thus tripped a circuit breaker. In this case you need to restore power to the disposal. You can reset the overload switch or reset the circuit breaker serving the disposal.

You also have the option of clearing the jam from above and removing the debris. One tip would be to turn on the cold water and then run the machine until you see that all the left over garbage is gone.
