What Does Soft Feather Mean?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Soft feather refers to feathers that are smooth, soft and silky. Soft feathers are in high demand, since comfortable pillows, mattresses and yarn can be made out of them. For example, 'the mattress was most comfortable, made out of ultra soft feathers'.

Feathers are the epidermal growths found on birds. They may either cover the entire outer body of the bird or be a part of its plumage. Feathers are of two types- vaned and down. Vaned feathers are those feathers which form the outer covering of a bird's body while down feathers pertain to those that are beneath the layer of vaned feathers.

Feathers may be of different colours, birds may be covered in feathers of a single colour, or feathers of different shades of a single colour and occasionally a single bird may have multicoloured feathers covering its body. For instance a raven has only black feathers, a parrot has green feathers and a cockatoo has white feathers but a strikingly yellow plume.
