Great Dunmow is a town situated in Uttlesford district in Essex, England. The town is well-known for its ritual of flitch trials that happens every four years. In this ritual couples have to convince a jury of six bachelors and six maidens that they have not wished themselves un-wed even for a day of a year. The successful couples take a parade through the High Street and also receive a flitch of bacon. This custom is quite ancient and even mentioned in 'The Canterbury Tales' that is written by Chaucer.

This town was in news recently because of some disagreement over the expansion of close by London Stansted Airport. One group of the residents argued that it will spoil the natural beauty of the town but the other group thought otherwise. They claim that it will prove vital in lowering down the unemployment rate in the town as it will attract businesses through passing trade.
