What Is Cat's Claw?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Cat's Claw is a health supplement which is derived from a South American vine.  Both its roots and bark contain alkaloids.  It is difficult to define the class of compounds referred to as alkaloids
Generally, they are physiologically very active and often poisonous -but many find applications in medicine when administered in small doses.
The alkaloids found in cat's claw have been found to contain anti-cancer and anti viral properties.  It also contains antioxidants which can help fight free radicals.
Cat's claw is also reputed to strengthen the immune system and helps protect against damage caused by environmental toxins such as ultra violet light and smoking.
In the early 1990's it was regarded as being the wonder drug of the botanical kingdom and was very popular, but when people began to reliase it was only an aid to good health, not a guaranteed delivery of good health it dropped out of favour a little.
