Can Cats That Are Six Weeks Old Be Spayed?
Answers
Cat both male and female are sprayed or neutered when they are six months old which coincides with their sexual maturity age.
This method is adopted to prevent successive pregnancies in the female cat. The tom cat is sprayed to put a halt on its wandering activities specially when aroused. The tom cat at times wander so far away from its abode that it is unable to find its way back. Being a pet it is not able to survive the harsh conditions outside and is likely to perish soon afterwards.
Spray has one more added advantage as well as it diminishes pungent smell of urine and territorial spraying in tomcats. A kitten of six weeks though must never be sprayed which could endanger its life and it should be at least be 10 weeks old and weighing more than 2 pounds at the very least.
There are cat hormones called pheromones available in the market whose smell relaxes the cat and diminishes aggressive behaviour.

The procedure for female cats is called "spay" not spray.
Also, it is becoming more common in the cat rescue and TNR world to get kittens spayed or neutered (the procedure for males) at a very young age. Some vets will do it and some won't.
The main reason to get your pets spayed or neutered is to prevent more unwanted animals from being born. There are millions of healthy dogs and cats, even puppies and kittens, who are put to sleep via lethal injection every single DAY because there are not enough homes for them and irresponsible people do not get them fixed, and allow them to breed. This must stop! Too many die because of it....
