Describe the purpose of a routing algorithm?

The purpose of a routing algorithm is to find a path from here to there.

Usually, it tries to do that subject to some constraints regarding cost or path characteristics. A routing algorithm for an auto trip might choose the shortest route, or the one taking the least time. A routing algorithm for traces on a circuit board might choose a path that minimizes the number of layers used, the total distance, crosstalk to other signals, and complies with a host of other constraints.

I will use the adaptive routing algorithm because they will update the route when changes happened in the network.
