How Pottery Is Made?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Pottery is clay that is altered with the help of chemicals and hardened permanently by firing in a kiln. There are different types of pottery depending on the clay, the method of making it, the temperature and the glazes used. It is made by removing coarse foreign material from the clay at varying quantities and kneading it into workable condition. Clay can be moulded into any shape and thus it is shaped as per use with the help of hands, plaster moulds or wheel throwing which is a more sophisticated technique if making pottery. But the traditional pots were hand made.
The potter's wheel that is still used  today was invented in the 4th millennium BC. Nowadays they are electric with a variable-speed motor that allows greater control for the potter.
